Sizing and fitting

Nappy sizes

Nappies can come in fixed sizes (Prem through to toddler) or One Size Fits Most (OSFM) which are adjustable for babies between 3kg and 20kg.

Fixed size guide

Approximate weights and ages:

  • Premmie (<2kg)
  • Newborn (2-5kg or 0-3 months)
  • Small (4-7kg)
  • Medium (6-11kg)
  • Large (10-20kg)
OSFM (One size fits most)

Adjustable nappies fit approximately 3kg to 20kg, depending on brand.

Adjusting OSFM nappies to size

Adjustable (OSFM) nappies are adjusted by reducing the height (aka rise) of the nappy with snaps, and reducing the waist diameter with snaps (or hook and loop).

As shown in the image above, the top 'rise' snaps (circled in green) are folded down to snap into one of the rows at the bottom (circled in orange). The bottom row is for newborn, the middle row is small, the top row is medium and it is not snapped down at all for large.

Comfort and fit

Adjust the waist to suit the size and shape of your baby. Like your own clothes, it should be tight enough to stay on but loose enough around the legs and waist to be comfortable.

  • Tuck all absorbent material inside the shell
  • You should be able to fit 1-2 fingers under the elastic
